For more listen to our latest release over at www.docandjock.com ・・・ Ankle mobility: why is it important? 👣 Sufficient ankle mobility is crucial for proper execution of many basic human movements including squatting, running, walking, jumping and more. Dorsiflexion in particular is a movement that typically becomes restricted, limiting functional movements and proper function up and down the entire kinetic chain 👣 During a normal gait cycle, dorsiflexion at the ankle is required to bring the leg behind us and sufficiently load the achilles tendon. The ability of the achilles tendon to act like a spring to store and release energy is important, especially with higher impact activities such as running 👣 If missing dorsiflexion, it's common to compensate by collapsing inwardly through the ankle, placing a lot of extra load on the foot. Rotating the feet out while walking is another compensation. Not only will the foot and ankle be affected by missing dorsiflexion, but the knee tends to take a huge beating (especially with stairs) 👣 Although a lot less common than a restriction in dorsiflexion, insufficient plantar flexion can have devastating effects as well as it limits our ability to produce power when pushing off the ground 👣 In short, ankle mobility is crucial for our daily activities as even simple tasks such as getting up from a chair or walking upstairs require sufficient motion at the ankle 👣 #thefootcollective #ankle #feet #foot #shoes #footwear #mobility #orthotics #barefoot #joints #movement #betterfootwear #foothealth #strongfeet #fitness #run #runner #stability #performance #footpain  #pain #strongfeet #anklemobility #mobility #ottawa
