Whenever I order takeout, my mom will say, "Aiya. I can make this"... except when it comes to @phillybubblefish. I don't splurge on much, but for my parents' last dinner in Philly this holiday season, Bubblefish was a surefire win. My parents were on Cloud 9. Thanks to the wonderful, generous staff at Bubblefish. I am so proud to support a family-owned business that does so much good for our Chinatown and Greater Philly AAPI community. Please consider Bubblefish for your events and catering needs. #supportsmallbusiness #shoplocal #aapi #philly #sushi #swoon #myAPAlife #grassroots #family #love #communityorganizers

I finally got to finish reading the book, "Dreams from my Father"- the first of my #Obama series. It's been one of my longest reads this year, but I trudged read through till the end. Although I'm not quite fascinated by such styles of writings, I was mostly encouraged by the details of 's journey, particularly his journey as an organizer, and finding his connections to Africa. In this memoir, he detailed his experiences as a child on a quest for belonging and self-actualization. His story was interwoven with families and connections across continents and places where he left his footprints. His astute description of the choices and situations that led him to become an organizer as well as his motivations for seeking social change were all entwined in many of his personal experiences, and the social injustices he witnessed as a youth. He was indeed a man who found his calling early and forged a path to a most meaningful end. My best part of the book was the epilogue. In the end, I had a clear understanding of his drive and inspiration as well as his openness to change. He was a man with an unlikely inheritance- a legacy that although not awe-inspiring, led him to make the right choices for himself and ultimately the world around him. I connected with him as a community organizer and one in search if the deep connections that shape our worldview and motivations for making a difference. Here, it wasn't about his politics; it was about his person, and the influences and ties that shaped that person. I'm glad I waited so long to read this book, and can't wait to delve into "The Audacity of Hope". Thankfully, it is not a memoir as well. #ObamaSeries #ObamaTheWriter #GreatMinds #ChangeMakers #CommunityOrganizers

How important is/should be the nation of #Haiti to #AfricanPeople in general and #BlackPeople in particular? For African nations, African-Americans, and Caribbean people to not be treated as second class citizens, a major revival ought to take place and something [very] different needs to be done: RE-EDUCATION. That re-education ought to be centered on the Negritude and Pan-African ideologies VIS-À-VIS the nation of Haiti then and today.
